I think Malkin's injury and Murray not knowing how to handle the true #1 gave Washington the edge they needed to slay their dragon. Otherwise the team is probably disbanded and their window is done.

To the Caps credit, they did get better as the playoffs went on - they looked really vulnerable in the earlier rounds. But your prediction could have been vindicated at many points.

Vegas is just...well who could see that coming? I doubt they replicate this next season.

Vegas is like 4 hours flight away from Washington, those boys wouldn’t have been able to get off the plane after celebrating their win, partying in Vegas was the right choice

I don't feel a whole lot of sympathy for a team which gets to move forward with a starter kit of prospects which includes the reigning CHL defenseman of the year in Nicolas Hague

With Ovie winning a Cup, it looks like Henrik Sedin is now the only Captain in NHL history to lead his team to multiple Presidents' Trophies, and come away without a Cup.

And another fun fact: There has been five times where a goalie played 20 games in a single playoffs, and where they posted a .940 SV%. We got to play two of them in back to back years when we won our Presidents' Trophies (2011 Tim Thomas & 2012 Jonathan Quick).

If we didn't have bad luck, we wouldnt have any luck at all.

If the Capitals can somehow push past 40 years of terrible playoff RNG, so will we. In like 2045.

We don't have anything of the magnitude of 9 series losses against our biggest rival, or a 4OT Game 7 playoff loss or having our President's Trophy season single-handedly ruined by Jaroslav Halak, though. Okay, scratch that. 2011, yes. 1982, no, 1994, maybe. Aside from that, our biggest ones were probably Otto kicking it in and the Aaron Rome suspension. Chicago sweeping us in 1995 with 3 OT wins was pretty ****, too

Still boggles my mind that we left a player like Hague on the board.

And some people think this regime drafts well

We had an incredible run of luck that year in 1982 (re: not the least of which the "Miracle on Manchester" game). Course even in that case, we *STILL* had some really bad luck in that our Captain & leader was knocked out for the balance of the year (regular season & post-season) by his *OWN* player in a freak collision on the ice. Sure some good teams were knocked out in the post-season but we still faced a time of legit HHOFers (in the primes no less) in the Final.

Goes back yet again to the great quote from Ken Holland about how the teams you think will win won't and the ones you think you won't will and how the Cup is mostly injuries and luck and building the most good teams for as many years as possible to take advantage of those injuries and luck.

Also, for anyone who ever said we should have blown it up in 2011 or 2012, Washington just won in our 2013.

What a cesspool. Not sure what prompted that witch to go off the deep end there. Hoffman is likely out of there. Pathetic on how his girlfriend of his is not an ex especially when it's very likely he knew about her wrongdoings. Shame on Hoffman.

The Sens are consistently shown to be a joke of an organisation, and an embarrassment to the league.

Cheap ass owner, Randy Lee, and now this.
