the fact that this pick is play is absolutely insane, the notion that this team is rebuilding is absurd.

This a team that tried trading their first round picks in 2015 and 2016 and are now trying to trade the 2018 pick.

    Utterly bizarre.

They also traded one of their 2014 1st round picks (McCann), and a 2nd round pick in three straight drafts (2014, 2015, 2016 x2).

This has never been a rebuilding team. This is a very poorly managed team that tried to be competitive and failed miserably.

The draft can't come soon enough, Iam so excited.

Anyway, I'd be fine moving down a few spots to grab a 2nd/3rd. Benning hasn't really missed on many 2nd-3rd round picks while being here, and by that I mean they are tracking well.

He use to be under the radar but now is picking up steam heading into the draft. See him as a late riser and would not be surprised if he gets drafted in the Top 20.

I think the U18s really helped him, getting away from Flint.

I think he should go in the 1st, but the BB mentioned his combine interviews were fine but sounds like some scouts specifically mentioned a bad interview. So that’s always a factor (whether it should be or not).

There is no rebuild, there never has been a rebuild. This is not a rebuild.

It's as if every year Benning watches the playoffs and how the Cup teams play and thinks "we must do the same" so he changes his idea on how the team is built. First it was the Boston model (need toughness, draft Virtanen) then it was the Chicago and LA model (get veterans, more grit and sandpaper, sign free agents, trade picks away), then the Pittsburgh model (draft skilled players), now the Capitals model (must have a point producing dman at all costs, trade 7th overall?). He has no goal or vision and it's frustrating because if he just would have drafted the best players available we would have already been 90% rebuilt and probably be a playoff team by now.

    Just keep the ****ing pick.

I want to watch in anticipation of which player the Canucks are going to select only to be disappointed, yell at the TV and voice my frustrations on HF Boards for the next several months.

I feel exactly the same way.If Dobson is gone,no one else but Boqvist really interests me all that much and he’s likely to be a faller who will be there at 10-12.If we do end up with Boqvist around there,it would be reassuring to get an extra pick just to mitigate the risk factor somewhat.

I have a hard time seeing Edmonton letting him go by them at 10 unless Wahlstrom is still available.

I think Edmonton wants to go with a Dman, they would take Ty Smith before Boqvist.Good Alberta kid, much less of a risk factor, and probably closer to the NHL.

That's a possibility too with the Alberta factor. I think Boqvist just suits them well when they are looking for a RHD PPQB. Smith is more of a 2 way guy is he not?

Smith seems to have a more well rounded game but he also put up over a PPG in the WHL on a middling Spokane team so he’s no slouch on the offensive side.Boqvist has a better shot and probably a few more offensive tools but a lot more question marks.

    Dahlin

    Hughes
    Dobson

    Bouchard
    Boqvist
    Smith

Rangers and Red Wings both have 7 picks in the first 3 rounds. We have 6 overall and are talking about trading it.

    What rebuild?

Yeah, but are those teams planning on drafting an NHL player with every pick? I don't think so.

I wouldn't be opposed to picking a forward and continue to build our future forward core.

Pettersson, Boeser, Horvat, Gaudette,Wahlstrom/Kotkaniemi would make us set for the future on forwards.

Id only consider moving down if hughes, dobson and bouchard are all gone. That's a real possobilty and even boqvist could be gone too by the time #7 rolls around in which case sure, move down 3 and take whoevers left of kotkaniemi/tkatchuk/wahlstrom.

I see significant drop off from those 4 dmen to smith though and passing up on any of them for a 2ndish isnt worth it imo.

What pisses me off is theres no excuse for us to be in a position where we need to trade down to recuperate bloody picks. We should be doing the exact opposite if anything.

Unless the forward available is a clear tier ahead, i dont see how we can accept coming out of this draft w/o a blue chip D prospect.

We have quite literally nothing on the back end and are getting dangerously close to oilers/sabres/islanders territory where your forward core starts breaking out but you have nothing on the back end to support them.

BPA still trumps all though. Better to take the better player and trade from a position of strength down the road. Worked out for columbus however not so much for edmonton.

If Hughes, Dobson, Boqvist and Bouchard are all gone that means one of Dahlen, Svechnikov or Zadina is still there. Then you pick who ever was left on the board and laugh all the way to the bank.

The lag waiting for high end D prospects to develop would be where the team stumbles unless we can trade a F for a D at some point.
