I agree. There are warts with Jones for sure but the one thing you know is that he is more than likely going to turn a team into a winner.
Jason Maas has warts as well but (unlike Jones as a HC) he is a big question mark who has already failed in a big game moment.
I know who I would take given a choice.

    Who? Kenny Stafford?

Jones has made many mistakes in his career as well and learned enough to win a cup on the strength of a player convincing him to throw a challenge he didn't want to throw. Hopefully Maas learns as well. And frankly Jones had much more experience in coaching roles when he got to the big games than Maas had.

That said, I'm like MoneyGuy. I've accepted his mistakes of last year (tantrums and the late field goal) as by-products of having a coach who still doesn't have an extensive amount of experience, but I won't be so forgiving if he makes similar mistakes this year.

He reminds me a lot of Don Mathews. He rubs a lot of people the wrong way but it’s tolerated because he’s a good football man. Once the wins stopped coming for Don though, he was out the door quickly because nobody could stand him. Then on to the next place. Wouldn’t surprise me if Jones ends up with a similar career.

Trying to run over Hugh Campbell with a golf cart didn't help. Hugh just wasn't that fast anymore after his playing days as "Gluey Hughey" ended.

What is Saskatchewan going to do next season when the management salary cap comes in? Isn't Chris Jones getting like $700K/year right now?

I forgot Jones was making that much. Some were wondering, earlier in the thread, why the league was doing this. I think it’s pretty clear they want to save themselves from another contract like his.

Hugh was never fast. He made his fame as a good route runner and because of his hands.

    Cuts are out:

    - Wouldn't Thompson have gone on the IR since he is still recovering from major injury?
-Palmer cut so who is going to play that right tackle spot on the OL?

Its not unusual to see Jones given little to no credit on here so your post falls nicely into that category.

All I am saying is that Jones is a better coach than Maas. That much is obvious to most of us.
With that in mind I would trade Maas in a heartbeat for Jones if such a thing were possible.

Its isnt (unfortuately) so like everybody else I have to hope that Maas can learn (from his glaring mistakes) and be a better coach and a better man as time goes on. Will that happen...I hope it does.
    I guess we will see.

You might have noticed that (because of his childish ways and his massive brain fart in the Playoffs) a few posters have given up on Maas all together.
At least I am open to the possibility that Maas can evolve.

I don't think people were questioning the dollar amounts. It was more why limit the number of people. If I can go out and find 2 people for the price that someone else is paying 1, why not? I feel the more bodies involved in this league the better chance there is at developing some new blood. Instead we could just see teams sticking with proven veteran guys and not taking chances on others.

    I'm an evolution-believing creationist.

Grymes is suspended for cap reasons as he goes home to deal with a family matter. It's hoped he'll be back for Thursday's game.

I'm just irked they had two eatly games and then have sat doing nothing forever. Especially bad for starters that didn't make the road game. Sitting for what seems like almost a month without a game.

Thursday with the Esks visiting Winnipeg.

Like Gord said its maddening how the preseason schedule worked out for the Esks. I expect a lot of rust from those starters that didn't see much action in the pre-season.

    SUPER-PUMPED FOR THIS YEAR THOUGH!!!!

Apparently Maas runs #1 offense against #1 defense in practice, that probably takes more rust off then what these guys do in pre-season games

    that's good to hear.

too bad our home Hamilton game is so early in the year. if we had it later in the summer we'd probably see Manziel play.

The Edmonton Eskimos have announced that defensive back Aaron Grymes will not play in Week 1.
The international defensive back has been added to the team’s suspended list, sidelining him for the Eskimos’ season-opener in Winnipeg on Thursday.
The move could leave the Esks thin at defensive back for Week 1. The club has been without veteran defensive back Johnny Adams and national starting corner Arjen Colquhoun so far throughout practice, according to CHED's Dave Campbell.

Aaron Grymes to miss Week 1 vs. Bombers - CFL.ca

against a rookie QB or no, esks are going into the first game pretty thin on defense.

We are going to have to score 35 points vs a touch defense to win this. We better bring the blitz early and often vs their rookie QB to rattled his cage.

Ouch! Esks by a field goal now. The youthful defensive line had better bring it.

Going to be interesting what they do with him. I think you have to go with Masoli as he really did finish the year well, but are you trying to get reps for Maziel at some point? Or do you wait for Masoli to fail and then just hope Maziel can play?

I believe that Tory Hunter's son has made the starting roster in the D backfield.

I remember his Dad as a good to very good player so hopefully sonny boy will bring the same game on Thursday.
