Ouch. Knew my Sukhachyov pick was a gamble but did not think the rest of them would be that off. Especially picking five guys who went undrafted.

Not great, not bad as compared with the real draft.....Sometime when I have some spare time I would like to do a redraft for these teams based on who was available when they picked.....but not now.

Glad to see most of my picks drafted. I took most of them a bit to early but had some real steals in Wouter Peeters and James Greenway.

    Legend:

Green: went earlier than I picked him
Yellow: went after but close to where I picked him
Red: went much later than I picked him
    Black: undrafted

    Caps:

30th: Alex DeBrincat (went 39th to Chicago)
120th: Stepan Falkovsky (went 186th to Calgary)
145th: Vojtech Budik (went 130th to Buffalo)
150th: Nicholas Caamano (went 146th to Dallas)
    180th: Daniel Marmenlind (undrafted)
    210th: Cameron Hebig (undrafted)

    Sharks:

50th: Evan Fitzpatrick (went 59th to St. Louis)
    110th: Otto Makinen (undrafted)
    112th: Ben Gleason (undrafted)
    140th: Ondrej Vala (undrafted)
170th: Matthias From (went 143rd to Chicago)
    201st: Kyle Maksimovich (undrafted)

Welp. My Caps draft wasn't too bad, but my Sharks draft was awful. I really can't figure out why Makinen and Gleason went undrafted, and I thought for sure someone would have grabbed Maksimovich in the 7th.

I'll also defend myself a bit by saying all but two of my picks were in utter crapshoot territory - 2 picks in the first 110.

    NASHVILLE PREDATORS

17th overall: Carl Grundstrom - WENT 57TH TO TORONTO - I wanted to take Fabbro here and ironically, the Preds did take Fabbro. However I thought Grundstrom would go late round 1 and we don't have trades in this mock so I took him.

47th overall: Frederic Allard - WENT 78TH TO NASHVILLE - right team, wrong round
77th overall: Tyler Parsons - WENT 54TH TO CALGARY - I'm happy with this value
107th overall: Linus Lindstrom - WENT 96TH TO CALGARY - Calgary takes my pick again!
137th overall: Kasper Bjorkqvist - WENT 61ST TO PITTSBURGH - Value here is awesome, big fan of this player
167th overall: Matthew Cairns - WENT 84TH TO EDMONTON - Well Oilers ;)
197th overall: Yegor Rykov - WENT 132ND to NEW JERSEY - Devils take a guy that I liked at the WJCs

All in all not bad. Had I just taken Fabbro instead of Grundstrom, this would be fantastic.

    My picks for TB:

    1 (19) Julien Gauthier 21-Carolina
    2 (44) Jordan Kyrou 35-St. Louis
    2 (49) Dennis Cholowski 20-Detroit
3 (79) Zach Sawchenko Undrafted. Stunned.
4 (109) Maxime Fortier See above.
5 (139) Dylan Coghlan Also undrafted. Hoping the Oilers send him rookie camp invite
    6 (169) Ondrej Najman Undrafted
    7 (199) Linus Weissbach Undrafted
    7 (209) Nikolai Chebykin 182-Toronto

All in all, not my best showing in terms of players not even getting picked, after a strong start. In my defense the fact that Sawchenko and Fortier went undrafted is insane. Better luck next year.

....might I suggest an offseason expansion draft mock?

    Is there interest?

I dunno about an expansion mock, but I was thinking it'd be fun to do a like 3-4 round mock for the 2017 draft in August. Give us draft junkies something to do over the longest month of the year.

In the real draft I was short a pick, but I thought I did decently considering the only undrafted was Kirwan. I only took him because he was rated top 5 like 2 years ago and it was the 7th round.. why not. 3 players the flames actually drafted.. not too shabby.

    1 (6) - Matthew Tkachuk - 6th overall to Calgary (exact)
    2 (35) - Vitali Abramov - 65th to Columbus (-30)
    2 (54) - Chad Krys - 45th to Chicago (+9)
    2 (59) - Dillon Dubè - 56th to Calgary (+3)
    3 (65) - Keaton Middleton - 101st to Toronto (-46)
    4 (95) - Eetu Tuulola - 156th to Calgary (-61)
    5 (125) - Max Zimmer - 104th to Carolina (+21)
    6 (155) - Jonathan Ang - 94th to Florida (+61)
    6 (165) - Carsen Twarynski - 82nd to Philadelphia (+83)
    7 (185) - Luke Kirwan - Undrafted (-25)

+15 overall compared to actual draft position

Killed it in the 5th and 6th rounds! Still can't believe I got Twarynski where i did. Haha

We could even combine it with one of those GM type games the other forums play.

    -Assign teams (1 Week)
-Make trades/signings in advance of the "season" (1 Week)
-Vote on the regular season standings to the mid-point (1 Week)
-Have a 2017 Trade Deadline, opening up a second round of trades (1 Week)
-Vote on playoffs/Cup Finals/etc. following the regular season (1 Week for each)
-Have a draft lottery, and then the actual 2017 Draft. (1 Week)

Unlike the other games where trading just kind of stops and no one is rewarded for anything, this would at least have a natural beginning, middle and "end". Teams would also be able to see through a rebuild strategy, i.e. stripping down the Rangers, finishing last in 2016-17 and drafting first overall while using all of the picks acquired during their rebuild to re-stock the pipeline.

All told, this would take 6-7 weeks and bring us right to the start of training camp when things pick up again. Good way to fill the summer.

A year in and my draft list looks even better. Colby Sissons signed a ELC with New Jersey last year and Patrik Bajkov is going to the VGK training camp.

It's a bit too early to judge this draft, but so far it's looking pretty good and I'm happy with it. Dahlen had a great year in Allsvenskan. I reached for Sokolov but he's still progressing nicely, 48 goals in the O and a goal per game in the playoffs. Gregor increased his PPG pace this season and should be due for another big year in the Dub. Suter had another good year in the Swiss league and is currently on a tryout with the Ottawa Senators. Pitlick scored 32 points in 38 games in his freshman year in NCAA, which is terrific and LaFontaine had a .911 SVS% in 11 games at University of Michigan. So all-around a solid post-draft year for all my guys. Maybe expected a little more out of Juolevi, but he's a defenseman and got plenty of time.

Almost at a full Draft +2 cycle, lets take a look.

McLeod had an alright season after not sticking with the Devils. Will look to make the roster this coming season. I had some buyers remorse I didn't take Kieffer Bellows, will be interesting following their futures.

Kunin had an alright season in his half AHL season and had middling results in his NHL games. Still though, really good arrows having made the show already.

Raddysh is progressing well in the OHL, want to see if he can keep it up in the AHL next season. A bolts prospect who've been churning out forwards.

Filip Berglund is someone we Oiler fans can get a bit optimistic about. Maybe we unearthed a Swedish Top-4 6'3 puck-moving big shot RHD. Known to be a offensive defenseman but he's now leading his team's defense in TOI in the SHL playoffs. Fingers crossed with this one.

My last pick, Tanner Laczynski is leading his NCAA team in scorning with 47 points. Nice.

So, no fireworks yet, but lots of good signs and up arrows across the board.

Just want to point out in the past 3 iterations of this Mock Draft, the Oilers would end up stealing my work and drafting a player I selected. We have 2017 (Kirill Maksimov), 2016 (Filip Berglund), and 2015 (Connor McDavid), and they're all tracking pretty pretty well. Snatch me up Oilers scouts. ;)

The 2018 Mock Entry Drat will start in a few weeks.

Nothing high end, but a good balanced draft with a ton of upward trending prospects at different stages of their development. That's a solid draft so far...

My top three of Clayton Keller, Cam Morrison and Joey Anderson have all trended very well in the last two seasons but the rest of the draft hasn't panned out with the exception of Oskar Steen and Tarmo Reunanen being longshot prospects at this point.

Well looking back at my 2016 Mock draft 2 years out. I can say Im very happy with it. Most of the guys who weren't drafted have since been signed by NHL clubs.

My top 4 picks are all signed and/or tracking well, especially Katchouk. The other 3 picks not so much. Excited to see how Koppanen and Asplund translate their games to NA.

I should have spent less money on the ladies and more on my scouting staff lol.
