HockeyIntangibles: How Noah Hanifin to Vancouver deal could benefit both sides.

This article was actually not written by me. @Steven Rush is responsible for this (awesome) piece. We're going to feature regular NHL, Vancouver Canucks, Toronto Maple Leafs content and hopefully more teams in the future.

Hope everyone has a great morning!

IMO, this report way over values Hanifin. Plus, we already have Hutton, who is a similar player. JB is not trading futures for this guy.

I don't think Hutton has near the upside, but my 2 cents.

I think any deal likely requires the 7th pick. If you picked a defenseman there you're likely saving yourselves a few years of development time too.

The craziest thing about that article is the implication that Pouliot would be hard to pry out of Vancouver lol

A team in the Canucks position shouldn't be looking to "save a few years of development time." The Canucks aren't close to competing for a playoff spot.

I don't think the Canes would touch that.

But do we actually no what price Carolina wants? I mean the fans are going to be vocal about a heavy toll, but they have new management looking to make a shakeup and I don't recall hearing any specific rumours. In terms of importance they could be asking for one Horvat/Boeser/Pettersson, the 7th OV, Demko, or anything below that like Tanev/Juolevi/Virtanen/etc.

I don't mean to be unrealistic and I wouldn't count on it but just saying this is how sometimes those Bertuzzi for Luongo deals happen. It's unlikely but there could be a reasonable deal to be had.

A bit hard to take seriously the notion someone questioning if the Canes could actually pry Pouliot out of Vancouver............

As far as I know, all we really know is Freidmen was saying 7th, I can't remember if there was a plus.

So the 7th has been offered? Would explain the lack of draft coverage this year.

    Fits the general pattern too.

    2014 1st (McCann) - traded for Gudbranson (D)

    2016 1st (5th) - apparently on the block for PK Subban (D)

2018 (7th) - may have already been offered for Hanifin (D)

Guess only trading / attempting to trade our 1st every other year is the most restraint Benning is capable of.

2015 1st (23rd) was offered in a package for Lucic. Thankfully LA offered up a better draft pick or we wouldn't have Brock.

I love how these medias keep trying to push this story just because they need something to write about

I don't think the trade will happen but I do think they are serious about it based on how much the local media mouthpieces have been talking about it (Imac, Kuzma, Dhaliwhal etc.). I don't get the sense that it's purely media fabricated.

This trade would mean that the Canucks would be forced to protect Hanifin from the Seattle expansion team and may even be forced to protect 4 D and leave a good 2nd line forward exposed. Meanwhile, whoever is picked at 7th OA will still be protected from the expansion draft. We certainly don't need any development shortcuts. This may shape up to be the worst Canucks squad since the late 1990's. I'm not moving 7th unless it's part of a trade up to 2nd OA, which obviously isn't happening.

There is an approximately zero percent chance IMO that they've thought that far ahead lol

Hanifin is barely a top 4 D with huge brain fart defenisve flaws and there is no guarantee he will ever become a top pairing D. Not a good risk to take for this team.. at this time.

Damn, it made such a nice, sequential pattern too. Now it just becomes “every-year-except-2017”.

    Gross.
