Right on. It's complete crap and conjecture. This guy isn't coming back to play for a rebuild.
Can we change the title? Lol
Likely still wants to but it’s part of the game
This is a good agent at work. Solicit bidders. Drive up the price. Create competition for your client. No bargain contract.
Rangers still have the flexibility to make a deal if they still want to.
Oh sure lol.
Guy isn’t coming here to play second pp on a rebuilding team. Makes zero sense
Outside of basic contract negotiation, leveraging other teams, and simply exercising due diligence in the market... I see no reason why anyone would ever want to be in California in June.... lol
I'm sure we are all shocked and such.
In Russian media these meetings were reported as had been scheduled “while on vacation...”
Kovalchuk going to save the Rangers from themselves....
Why are you playing this Mr. Hyperbole card lately? It's childish
There is a top 6 slot for Kovalchuk off the bat. There's most likely 1, if not 2 slots on at least ONE of the PP units...
Kovalchuk-Hayes-Spooner/Zuccarello (if he is moved then Spooner is the obvious fit here)...
That's our top 6 right now... We look like trash, but we're hopefully going to have a team of hard working, meat and potatoes guys.
There is room for Kovalchuk. He'll also thrive with that top 6, IMO
If they sign Kovy, they might as well sign Tavares and trade for E.K
Lets rebuild or not
If Kovy signs here it's just for a payday.
Right... is anyone actually surprise by this?
Will anyone be surprised when he goes to the team that pays the most & gives the most years?
Well, he IS a professional hockey player. Isn't he supposed to be paid?
Professional athlete looks out for own self-interest...did not see that coming.
Well, of course he's going to be looking for a deal that serves his self-interest, but that doesn't necessarily mean the most money. He has made a lot of money over the years and he may be more interested in things like playing closer to his home, playing in a particular system, playing for a contender, etc. Those are all part of the self-interest. It doesn't just have to be about cash. He may very well take less cash from a contender than some other bubble team, or less cash from a team in a particular market than a team on the West Coast or something. Who knows what he'll do. Just saying, I don't think he necessarily takes the most money.
what about what I said is hyperbole?
the guy's biggest weapon is his righty shot on the pp. we have that covered. we are also rebuilding. he's not coming here to play second pp unit on a rebuilding team. thinking otherwise is the only thing childish here quite frankly. you said it yourselves we look like trash. so why would a 36 year old guy coming back to win a Cup come here to play second fiddle on the pp on a bad team?
No need to keep this open as it is crossing over with other threads. At this point is obvious Kovalchuk is looking at every option. Should there be some news that is relevant to the NYR we can open it.
