Is that really what he's going to say?...".We're leaving the Canucks because my wife and I are homesick?"....He straight faced said to the local media on last years season ending presser that the most important thing for him was being a Canuck and improving for the next year (all the while knowing,at that very moment, that he was booked on the next days flight back to Russia and signing with a KHL team).

According to the posting that I was replying to, that's what Tryamkin said. That's why I was asking for a source.

This is your 'spin' on Tryamkin's departure from the Canucks.....but Benning obviously knew he was coming to end of his contract with the Canucks and if he had prioritized his signing by going to the player and his agent in mid-season with an attractive contract offer, I doubt we'd even be having this conversation.

Instead Jimbo dithered and Tryamkin, who was homesick anyway, bolted back to the KHL. This of course forced the Cancuks to go out in the off-season and sign a couple of slug UFA d-man who predictably tanked in VanCity, trade for a guy like Pouliot; and then were pressured to sign Gudbranson because of a perceived lack of size and toughness on the blueline.

Based on Tryamkin's progression in the KHL, he'd easily be a top-two d-man on this sorry Canuck blueline. So this screw-up has had an impact up and down the lineup.

Yes, and for all the benning haters, the handling of Tryamkin is actually a fair criticism. From not stepping in on Willie - sometimes you have to think about the long term future, is it Try or Willie that matters more, and clearly JB didnt try and find a happy medium. And that doesn't mean Try comes before the coach or team, but you have to find ways to make both happy and not unfairly give ice, but also allow this huge potential to develop. The reality is talented Russian players have options, they can go home, be closer to friends and family, not have language issues, no culture shock, and be paid more. So you have to think about keeping them happy and motivated to stay and not go back. We have this assumption that everyone should want to only play in the NHL - sure its the best league in the world and all athletes are competitive. But, the KHL is pretty good, and then you have all the other benefits above.

And the integration culturally, family wise, etc, perhaps 'new to JB', should have been considered, that's his job. JB did mess this up for certain.

My spin is that he was homesick, and that is the main reason he went home....He also wasn't happy with his ice time, the coaching staff (but he must have known they were gonzo at years end),the amount of time on road trips, the NHL fighting code etc.

Who is to say that Benning should have prioritized his contract..?,he probably had no idea half way through the season that Tryamkin was going to bolt back Russia.

There's a lot of woulda, shoulda, coulda's in the whole Tryamkin thing, but he was going home regardless, and no amount of cash was going to make him stay..By playing in the KHL,he's potentially leaving a lot of money on the table here..my.02 cents

My spin is that he is totally looking out for his own perceived best interest. He didn't like his ice time, and he certainly didn't want to go to Utica like was suggested to him at one point so he went back home to make good money to be a good dman. Which is basically what he said happened.

And my spin is that the team signed him to a contract that allowed him to veto assignment to Utica, then tried to pressure him into doing that anyway. Then they kept on showing him footage of Chris Pronger even though Tryamkin's game is nothing like his, IIRC publicly called out his conditioning at some point, then didn't give him enough icetime to keep him happy.

    And then he left.

Valeri Nichushkin and Slava Voynov both looking at coming back to the NHL...Ovechkin is the first Russian captain to win the SC..Not that these mean much to Tryamkin, but it makes you wonder how much longer he wants to spin his wheels in the 2nd best league in the world.

Just another day late, dollar short performance from a disappointing gm. Always excuses and other people to blame, always the same sad results.

"Waaah!!! They "pressured" me and made me watch video of a Norris/Hart Trophy winning, Stanley Cup ring wearing Olympic Gold medalist!!! I am so out of here!!!"

If that spin is for real, then good riddance.

I think he made hockey related excuses for leaving, which were to cover that his young wife insisted.

He isn't coming back to Vancouver. Most players would rather play in the states so they can have a normal life outside of the game.

Funny how in the NHL things change like a New York minute....at the end of the previous season, the Canucks seemed have the makings of a decent top-four with Tryamkin, Juolevi and Hutton. Now nothing but question marks. I think Tryamkin will return to the NHL one day, but may not be in VanCity.

Something that has happened twice in the past 25 years doesn't reflect on the fanbase's quiet nature as a whole.

Even though the tweet is dated today,it looks like the same quote that he said a month ago...but ,I agree..He will be back next season (which I'm betting on),or the following.
