A lot of Caps fans seem to think Trotz being a lame duck was never about the Caps management wanting to move on if they floundered again, but that he may want to retire from coaching to spend more time with his family.

    Well it's his decision.

If he does, it would be one hell of a capper to his Coaching career after being mocked so many times by...well...US with the Second-Round Trotz(or whatever nickname we gave him).

But I think it depends on what the GM offers. If the money is right, I think he comes back for a couple of more years....

That was Cage Helmet and his immature nicknames. To be a goofy, immature, 35 year old again! Like the Kremlin Kone days for me! At some point you get too old and you lose that creativity, which what happened to me in the last several years.

I think that name from him goes back to about 2014. Whenever they hired Trotz. The Caps were once again already being handed the cup by the pundits and I remember him saying something like ''Trotz ain't even been past the second round in (however many years, it was over 15) years of coaching in the NHL''. Of course they would go on to lose to the Rangers that year in the second tound after having a 3-1 series lead. They almost lost to the Islanders in 7 games in the first round that year.

I think Trotz is probably close to HOF consideration for this cup win.

His longevity in Nashville, despite not much deep playoff success, is also probably worth a lot. Head coaches don't stay employed with one team for that long. It's not very common.

I’ll give it to you on Trotz. I don’t think he’s a bad coach, I never did, I just didn’t think he was this amazing and legendary head coach, either. He’s been talked about as a consensus top 3-5 head coach in the NHL for the last decade or more. I’ve never once thought Boudreau was anything greater than a median level HC in the league. Will do good, but not great with good teams and would probably do poor with teams below average. We have yet to see him coach a real below league median club at this level. Trotz never really coached stacked teams until Wash. Nash had some strong hockey clubs after the last lockout but probably not championship caliber and never had anywhere near an Ovechkin caliber phenom.

    The board never forgets :D

I think it's generally a fun observation that people that follow hockey as much as the posters here do have such broad range of opinions how the SCF will turn out. I am so glad this is not European soccer where you already know the champion before the season starts. NHL is so unpredictable, which is why it's so interesting.

Nashville got ganked by Detroit in 2008 and Osgood after they chased Hasek outta there. I think they might have beaten Detroit if Babcock hadn't sat Hasek. They really had a hard time getting past San Jose in both 2006 and 2007. 5 game eliminations two years in a row.

The 2007 Preds were I don't wanna say stacked, but they were very top heavy. D was great, had a top 7 goalie. Paul Kariya was the one superstar I'd say they had. He was gone after that season. Then they had JP ''I can't believe he scored 65+ points three straight years, then fell off 2 years later at 31 years old'' Dumont. Legwand definitely performed like a top line center that year. Jason Arnott was a borderline 1C still. Martin Erat was still a top line caliber player. They also had a young Scott Hartnell and Alexander Radulov. Both pretty good seasons, probably used as 2nd/3rd line guys. They were loaded on D with Timonen (he was really good back then), Marek Zidlicky and very young Shea Weber and Ryan Suter. They also had Steve Sullivan, who was unavailable for the playoffs due to injury. Dumont, Sullivan and Erat all could have been top line RW's that year. Radulov was easily a 2nd line RW. Legwand and Arnott both could have been a 1C that year. Kariya is a 1LW, Hartnell is a 2LW. That top 4 D is pretty damn good. They get Forsberg at the deadline. Vokoun was easily a top 10 goaltender at the time. Probably a top 7 goaltender.

Now the next year. No more Kariya, no more Hartnell, no more Timonen, no more Forsberg (was a rental anyway), no more Vokoun. Steve Sullivan missed the entire season due to injury. Chris Mason who had played well in net the year before imploded, Dan Ellis played great but started fewer games than Mason. That team still made the playoffs, but that roster doesn't look cup caliber in the least. The 06-07 team was probably a contender, but they blew the team up. If they had that 06-07 team again, they might have made noise if it got another chance.

I would have lost a fortune if I bet money on this playoffs.

Glad I didn't. I think I'll get back to my winning ways next playoffs!:P

My pessimistic takes on everything this year actually worked out really well. The Devils made the playoffs and Ovi got his Cup. Hard to argue the results :)

Rather have ovi win the cup before kovy. It really was an insane run by vegas in their 1st season... If you're gonna win a cup on the road Vegas is prob the perfect place to celebrate after the win.

Let's hope we take a bigger step closer to a run next season

Great moment. Watching Ovechkin play hockey is a treat. Maybe the best goalscorer ever.

Yes, there was barely any booing. That's why it struck me as odd. You never hear Bettman loud & clear like that unless it's a proper 1v1 interview setting.

As for the boobs, I was watching and I completely missed it. I noticed Caps players pointing into the stands, but I just assumed they were acknowledging fans, not that they were "acknowledging" 1 fan. lol

Woman presses her naked boobs up against cold ice hockey glass as Capitals players celebrate their Stanley Cup win

He was also part of getting a brand new franchise competitive within 6 years of its inaugural season, back when the expansion process was much different and didn't exactly set teams up to succeed in quick fashion, and then only missing the playoffs 3 times in a 10 year span after that.

Whoever said Poor Mojo earlier in the thread, don't worry, it'll be that much sweeter when he gets his Cup with us. :)

A shame it's probably all tourists in there, locals booing him out of the club would have made for a more entertaining video lol

    Not all tourists.

Did you see how many Caps fans made it to Vegas? It was almost like clinching at home!

IMO, Vegas fans are front runners, even in their infancy. Down 3-1? It's over - let's get some of our $$$ back.

I am wondering what happened to Vegas in this series.

    Coach turned into a pumpkin?
    Beating Winnipeg was a fluke?
    Caps are really that good?
