Not to mention Sutter and Gudbranson who both have big egos and have thrown their team under the bus multiple times.

Every pro scouting evaluation Benning has made is wrong.

Funny that from a GM who made his way to the NHL as a D man, Benning has yet to make one astute decision when it comes to evaluating the position. A lot of mis- fires and mehs'... but absolutely nothing to show any true ability to recognize blue line talent.

Tyramkin maybe... but it does't take a wizard to draft a monster when given the opportunity... oh and, he may never play for the team again.

Overall it's been very poor, but there have been some wins, minor as may be. Unless you meant specifically Dmen, in which case yeah, he's batting 0.000%

Could be that he can't think of the modern concept of an effective NHL dman since he's so stuck in the past with the grit/mentorship/ruggedness crap.

Benning is on video not even knowing what league Tryamkin was playing in at the time of the draft.

    Do you have the video?

Are you saying that Benning had no idea who Tryamkin was, and that it was one of his subordinates that selected him?

It's been linked here like 20 times before.

They're prepping for an interview with Tryamkin before the draft and Benning is talking with Crawford (?) and asking questions including where Tryamkin was playing the previous year.

And this is completely normal. Mid-late round picks are made by the scouting staff and the GM will simply rubber-stamp the selection. And it's hilarious when people who don't understand this act like Benning decided to draft guys like Tryamkin or Gaudette (or a guy like Stewart on the other side of the ledger).

If the only options are win or loss, Baert, Vrbata, Vanek are all wins. I'd listen to arguments for Miller and Sutter as well. Not saying they're star on the fridge caliber, but there you have it.

I would debate the Sutter trade being a pro scouting win, mostly because how Benning described him after the trade and what he expected he was getting. Which isn't Sutter at all.

Sutter and Gudbranson do not have big ego’s that serve as a detriment to the team.

Benning has had multiple successes in terms of his pro scouting evaluation. Vrbata, Baertschi, Sutter, etc. even a guy like Granlund was somewhat effective for us, while Shinkaruk ended up doing absolutely nothing.

Leipsic looked pretty decent last year as well (albeit, it was a small sample size).

That’s odd. You rip me for making horrid trade proposals, and then use 90% of my ideas? Go figure.

I wonder if there’s any chance that this could be a sign and trade type thing? Likely not but who knows.

The only decent defender Benning has acquired to date is Troy Stecher.

But I feel like if people can write off Gillis signing Hamhuis a lot of those reasons can be applied to the Stecher signing.

Yepp i could not agree more,,,actually when you want to start a re build or retool,,ya dont start by signing aging vets ie: (Eriksson ) to long term contracts. Also its Judd Braketts fault for saving Jimbos ass last season,,because if it was not for him pointing Jim in the right direction at the draft,,im sure Jim would have screwed that up too.

Van goes into the draft with pick 10, 11, 26, 28, 39 and 52 in the first two rounds and grabs 3 more picks for the home draft in 2019. And I'm 150% sure all other teams would agree to these trades /s I want nothing to do with Lucic

I think were going to make a push in the Karlsson sweepstakes

For a signed Karlsson, who btw i think is the best dman in the world and still has 10 good years under him....

    Id offer

    7OA
    2nd rnd 2019
    Tanev
    Kole Lind
    Dipietro

    For Karlsson and Bobby Ryan.

I think taking Ryan's contract is necessary for us not to give up someome like EP or Boeser for Karlsson.

Melnyk is a cheap ass and will jump for joy at getting rid of Ryan's contract.

    Awards:
Prust was awful, but Miller - IMO - was one of the better leaders Benning acquired. Whether it was leaping in to fight Matt Martin in defense of Troy Stecher, or taking Nikolay Goldobin aside at practice to offer him words of encouragement when he was in Willie's doghouse, Miller was a fine teammate and locker room guy. He exuded more leadership and mentor ship than some of our other acquisitions whom Benning and Linden crowed about.

I know that I’ve been hypothesizing a lot about Karlsson lately (my honest opinion is that the Canucks should NOT trade for Karlsson), but if the Canucks were to go after Karlsson, then they’d need to make a huge run at Tavares as well as to avoid being in “no man’s land.”
