I did. I've seen people elsewhere suggest Hayton could be like Bergeron, was just pointing out where Bergeron was drafted and how people immediately try to duplicate that.

I thought this was a bit of an interesting quote on Boqvist...

Its a bit interesting watching everyone try to draft the next Karlsson...

Reminds me when everyone was trying to draft the next Bertuzzi

Smith has more points as a d-man then Hayton does as a forward, as I pointed out before Ty Smith has the highest points per game of any d-man in the WHL in the past 16 years, judging Hayton against other U18 forwards in that same time frame in the OHL (with the same minimum of 20 games played), he comes in at 122nd on the list.

Here's some other Points per game amongst U18 OHL two-way centers:
    • Mike Richards= 1.30
    • Sean Monahan= 1.26
    • Mark Scheifele= 1.14
    • Radek Faksa= 1.06
    • Boone Jenner= 1.05
    • Austin Watson= 1.04
    • Jordan Staal= 1.00
    • Ryan O'Marra= 0.98
    • Ryan O'Reilly= 0.97
    • Barret Hayton= 0.95
    • Bo Horvat= 0.91
    • Scott Laughton= 0.83
RoR wasn't even on my radar in his draft year so I can't compare Hayton to him, but I seen a lot of Horvat and I thought Horvat was a more dynamic offensive talent and his point distribution was a lot more goal heavy and high goals per game rate is one of the strongest indicators for future success in the NHL.

We wasted so many picks trying to chase the next Lucic. Also a crazy number of high picks have been squandered chasing big D, trying to get the next Chara. Chasing the next Karlsson though means you are ultimately chasing skill, which isn't the worst thing to chase.

Kravtsov's hockey iq is very suspect

Playing more minutes obviously means more pp time and more time on ice. In other words, his points are inflated. Lets say he played 25-30 minutes a night.... he wouldn't have over 80 points now would he? He'd be around maybe 55-65 points (which isn't bad). All I'm saying that picking players out of the London Knights may not be the best route for us. We've seen it happen with Schremp and Gagner

Id agree but at the same time its silly to argue the highest scoring defender in the chl isnt just that.

You can argue anyone will score less with less minutes. The flipside is that the coach believes that is their best shot at winning hockey games.

Knights are far from the stacked team they normally are and swearing off taking Knights in the future is crazy talk, they've produced far too many quality NHL talents over the years.

I appreciate the work, but Smith and Hayton are both perfect examples of why you shouldn't put much weight into numbers when drafting, IMO.

The Knights probably produce more NHLers than any other CHL team.

You don't avoid them just because the Oilers have somehow managed to be the only team to draft a 1st round bust from that organization in the last ~40 years.

And they do that because they generally get their pick of the litter. There's a reason why you don't generally see them raking the bottom of the standings. They produce plenty of players who look a lot better than they actually are.

    Agreed,

Wouldn't a WHL D setting recent records be regarded higher? Imo it raises flags that someone putting up numbers like that isn't ranked higher.

OilersTV did their top 10 mock today with Stauffer, Michaels and Principe. Principe had the Oil taking Boqvist, Michaels had Hayton and Stauffer had either Smith or Kravtsov. They talked a bit about who they'd look at for pick 40 as well, both Stauffer and Michaels mentioned Olivier Rodrigue as a guy who'd be of interest. Personally not a fan of how Stauffer and Michaels are thinking, hopefully that's just personal opinion and not coming from the org.

I don't hate them at all, if the team was picking in the 12-15 range they'd be fine picks. I don't like the idea of picking either of them at 10 because I believe there is a clear cut top 10 in this draft, and neither of them are in that group.

As much as I love boqvist, i'm really starting to hope a team before us takes him... Just because i feel that if he's there at 10, i'm afraid we'll probably pass on him.

Oh yeah. There's no doubt in my mind that they've done the same kind of shady things Windsor got fined for doing. Especially when it comes to Americans.

It's not even really fair to call Gagner a bust. The guy will probably finish his career with over a 1000 games 500+ points.

Gags was just a player that did not live up to his draft position. That is all ,it not a big deal since he became a bottom six forward.

Kravstov, Smith or Hayton at 10 would be pretty ridiculous.

I think I could live with Kravtsov, he's a huge wildcard but he's got the high end skills where he could potentially play one or two more years in the KHL and then step into a top 6 role alongside McD or Drai. But if it plays out like those three have projected I'd be running to the stage to pick Boqvist, no question.

I haven’t looked at the ranking, but if this is true, just goes to show you how out to lunch they are. He’s at minimum a solid second round pick.

Its hard to rank a player when you can't spell their name. That name is a mouthful.
