not to mention, there'll NEVER be a "right" time to leave - you never want to "abandon" your teammates, but 99% of the people will understand why you're leaving, so don't get too hung up on it

The job market is tighter now than anytime in years as hiring has been absolutely screaming recently.

I sit next to the HR folks at my company, and it's a very challenging environment for them as there aren't enough people looking for jobs, and they feel they need to "act" quickly or they could lose qualified candidates.

So now is a great time to leave your company and look for jobs, because higher wages and juicer benefits are being lobbed at people to encourage them to leave. The easiest way to get a "raise" right now is to simply leave your employer.

Yeah, I wasn’t actively looking but this company contacted me via LinkedIn. Offered me better benefits, significant pay increase and a de facto promotion (in terms of job title.)

I feel bad leaving since they made the group work around me and handed me a lot of responsibilities, but it’s hard when the opportunity presented is great. I think my team members will be happy for me and it might be a realization that they should get out and look too. I guess I just feel guilty about leaving after a such a short time. It’s a complicated situation with the company’s financial difficulties.

Everyone is right though, have to look out for myself because the company would do the same.

Job jumping seems to be the only way to get a significant pay increase these days

Never feel bad about this stuff, you're your own company and looking out for yourself is the only thing that matters. Most people in charge of these companies wouldn't lose an ounce of sleep over firing you. **** em. Take the new job and more money.

It is. Most jobs you're just a number and will be replaced by someone who inevitably will be paid less than you for the same job. Nobody is loyal anymore and it doesn't pay to stay somewhere unless pension and such are involved.

You’re never more than 50 feet from sharks when swimming in the ocean. That might be a slight exaggeration. I’m an avid surfer and lover of the ocean. Having lived in Coastal New Jersey, Southern California and now Jacksonville, Florida, I won’t live away from the coast due to surfing addiction. Not even scared, bro.

I have an irrational fear of bridges and don't think twice about sharks when we are at the beach. Hell Im more concerned with drowning than sharks.

I have an irrational superiority feeling towards any animals who I have eaten at least once. I have eaten shark. I don't fear shark. This is stupid but it is true.

That's one of the top-20 oddest things I've ever read in the TAN.

I let the M1 bark a little tonight after work in honor of June 6, 1944; always a good time.

When I was a little kid, it wasn't uncommon to meet a WWII veteran, sadly there are few left now. :(

How so? Like just driving over bridges? I feel less secure when I’m driving on a bridge with lots of beams and steel which impedes my view. I feel much more secure on ones where I can see the bottom down!

I really am not a fan of looking anywhere but straight ahead on bridges. I'll do it but if it's a super high one I tend to get a little nervous.

Also, if you get the chance, throw a tiger shark steak on the grill. I marinated mine in the olive-oil-Italian dressing that like WishBone or whoever makes. Heavenly.

My gf has an irrational fear of street grates, bridges with the metal flooring with holes (essentially giant grates), manhole covers, or those covers in the city that open to basements that you can walk over. She'll walk around all of those things. I like to block her path so she has to go over them, and she'll stop in her tracks and take a route around or wait. It's good fun.

    That's my text message alert.
