Annd we have come full circle. You said "teams know you can play and win at hardball with Benning". I said you have no proof of this and you are talking out of your ass. Those kinds of statements require proof. Your only opinion is that Benning made some bad trades. But he has also made good trades. I am not ignoring anything, but I refuse to make the leap in logic you seem to want to do. I will let this go though, I know how you love to drag these things on. Agree to disagree I guess.

Would it help if I added the obvious “In my opinion ...”?

Hope that wraps this despite how much I love to drag these things on.

how much more reign are they getting here exactly?

anywhere you go there are acquisitions where the coach had some input.

Yeah but it seemed like Willie had more say than the average coach

I don't know about this - how he managed to completely screw Ottawa into taking Burrows for a legit prospect is pretty wily if you ask me...........Yes I tend to agree with your sentiments but let's not overlook that obvious fleecing.........which even his most ardent critics could agree was a very shrewd deal for us.

One schrewd deal against many the other way.

Credit were credit is due, but it’s the exception.

To have a coach who is all about winning now having significant input into the roster moves of a team that is rebuilding is frankly insane.

Green doesn't want rookies. He doesn't want draft picks. He doesn't want to develop players. He wants reliable veterans to help him try and squeeze into the playoffs.

A competent organization tells him to coach the players he's given.

Ottawa apparently approached us about Burrows and gave us a list of prospects they'd move for him. Benning then took the best guy off the list. Hardly 'wily'.

Also apparently the Sedins had to talk Benning out of buying Burrows out the previous summer.

How many trade deadlines has Benning faced with a team that clearly wasn't in the playoffs? And one trade is what you point to - great - that was a good trade. He has squandered many more opportunities than that. Why can't he trade anyone at the deadline for an actual draft pick? He talks about wanting to acquire draft picks - why does he seem to be the only losing record GM in the league that cannot acquire more draft picks?

I'd say "frankly insane" qualifies as hyperbole. There's a lot of that going around.

It's probably a mistake to give Green much input, for the reasons you say. The error could be of two sorts: management hasn't figured out why it's wrong to ask the coach for input of this sort, or management feels exactly the way the coach would -- mistakenly thinking the team should be trying to squeeze into the playoffs.

Then again, it could be that management has said to Green, "who's a bargain UFA that's likely to perform well enough to be a stopgap for a year and get us a pick at the deadline?" But I doubt it.

I totally and comprehensively agree with your conclusion. While it’s almost impossible to provide “proof” you logic is extremely reasonable and I think accurate. Asking for
Proof that other GMs play Benning for a fool, is akin to asking what created the universe, unfortunately your only going to get to pull together details and facts but should be able to drawn a likely conclusion.

If were gonna go for karlsson cant givw up too much but could work, maybe like Baertchi, Gad, 2019 2nd, Sutter, 2018 3rd and Gudbranson. Because then sign Tavares then we gotta conpetitive team like NOW

    Lipesic Horvat Boeser
    Gold Tavares PBP
    Eriksson Gaudette Virtanen
    Clamato Gaunce Gagner

    Edler Karlsson
    Juolevi Tanev
    Del Zotto, Hutton

    Marky
    Demko

Deepest top 3 centres in the league and move up Gaudette to top 6 part way thru the season as he learns the ropes. This also keeps excellent prospects like Dahlen Lind Jasek Locky and Dipi well losing a good one like Gad and some valuable picks BUT remember if we are to get Karlsson we will have to give up some pieces we wanna keep

According to the hockey insiders McKenzie and LeBrun, Benning has been one of the most active GM's in the league in terms of pitching trades...obviously that $20m in cap space is burning a hole in his pocket. If he can 'weaponize' that cap space and take on a bad contract, hopefully he get the picks/prospects he really needs. But still not overly confident.

We make that offer to Ottawa and we get charged with attemptive murder...... I can garunteed a team like Vegas puts together a package that includes 3 first round picks, either already drafted or futures

Tuch, Glass, Suzuki and their 1st round this year and next year

We don’t have the pieces nor is it the time

Karlsson for Baertschi, Gadjovich, a 2nd, 3rd, Sutter, and Gudbranson??

Jesus, Ottawa would have to trade another 2-3 bodies just to make room for all the crap we’re sending their way. Maybe we should include Gagner, Eriksson, Chaput, and a 2021 6th round pick just to make sure Ottawa absolutely definitely says yes.

I think we only need to look back at at the way we finished up last season with our little mini charge up the standings when all that was at stake was our draft lottery position and Green's obvious delight with the situation to understand Green's priority. Not that it's different than any other coaches would be, it obviously isn't. But giving him any real personnel input is a very bad idea. Letting the coach coach and the management manage would be the right idea.

Neither. We need to remove that heap of garbage and replace it with something actually good. 6 bad pieces don’t add up to one great piece.

Sign De Haan, Peca, Reeves (mentor goon)

    Trade Sutter for whatever
    Trade Tanev for 1st +
    Waive Granlund

A start at least without being stupid.

Typical over-reactionary post from you. A competent organization has management and the head coach on the same page and communicating on a pretty much a daily basis.

Shanahan on Mike Babcock’s input in front office decisions:
Babcock had a heavy influence in bringing newcomers P.A. Parenteau and Matt Hunwick into the fold.

Babcock also came out in his initial press conference and said " ...there will be pain" referencing the rebuild.

He also has as long term contract, a long and glowing coaching history in the nhl, and a direction that the team is rebuilding."

Green is a brand new coach in the nhl who has to build his reputation. The team has barely whispered the word rebuild let alone direct green that is the course of action. Entirely different situations.
